Sheryl Mastaw, 46, of Kincheloe, Michigan died from personal injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on icy roadway on M-129 in Chippewa County.
After an overnight blast of cold air and drizzling rain, a portion of state road M-129 became an icy hazard. Several motor vehicle accidents took place with multiple personal injuries reported. One car was heading northbound when it attempted to pass another northbound vehicle and collided head-on with a southbound car. Mastaw was a driver in one of the two vehicle, though it remains unclear which vehicle she was driving.
Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office has conducted an investigation and a spokesperson for the office stated that Mastaw passed away from her injuries at the scene of the accident. Several other individuals were rushed to the War Memorial hospital emergency room for medical treatment.
The Sheriff’s Office spokesperson further underscored the need for drivers to adapt to road conditions, especially when roads are snowy and icy, in order to avoid tragic accident such as the one that took Mastaw’s life.
