No Surprise: Snow and Ice Injuries Prevalent on Ski Slopes.

According to data from the National Ski Areas Association (“NSAA”), ski slopes continue to be a dangerous and deadly place for both skiers and snowboarders.

Every year, nearly 60 million people ski or snowboard on ski slopes. The NSAA data reveals that, over the past 10 years, an average of 40 people are killed while skiing or snowboarding and 43 more suffer severe snow and ice personal injuries while on the slopes.

These wrongful deaths and personal injuries are usually the result of excessive speed and loss of control, and typically involve collisions with trees and lift towers, rather than other skiers.

Safety experts are urging skiers and snowboarders to wear helmets when they take to the slopes, as head injuries are the most common cause of wrongful death involved with these snow and ice injuries.
