Slip and fall accidents can arise from a variety of different reasons. However, the most common form of slip and fall accident occurs during the winter months when snow and ice are improperly cleared. Some slips and falls on snow and ice are simply accidents resulting in only minor injuries. However, there are cases in which a slip and fall on an icy patch can lead to more serious injuries, such as cuts and bruises, back pain, sprains, and broken bones. When you slip and fall due to a property owner negligently removing snow and ice from their property, you may be entitled to recover for your pain and suffering, and medical expenses. A Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native, Bruce Larkin, 60 years-old, and his attorney Franklin R. Strokoff. Esq., of The Rothenberg Law Firm LLP, have recently obtained a settlement of $1.3 million in their slip and fall case. Earlier this year in February, at approximately 11:00 am, Mr. Larkin was walking to meet a friend for coffee when he slipped and fell on ice located on a sidewalk in front of a Philadelphia apartment building. As a result, the top of Mr. Larkin’s head went directly down onto the sidewalk. Mr. Larkin was able to furnish evidence that no part of the sidewalk was entirely clear, and that he tried his best to avoid the patches of snow and ice before he slipped. As a result of the fall, Mr. Larkin sustained a large right-sided subdural hematoma that required craniectomy and cranioplasty surgeries. Mr. Larkin was later diagnosed with a mild traumatic brain injury. The property owners, and a tenant who allegedly performed snow and ice removal services for the owners, contributed $1,000,000 and $300,000, respectively, towards the settlement.
