After north Texas experienced a rare ice and snow storm during the first week in December of this year, a sixteen year-old girl was injured in a sledding accident in Denton County, Texas.
While sledding after an unusual snow and ice storm in northern Texas earlier this month, Lauren Barnard, of Flower Mound, Texas, was injured in an ice sledding accident. Lauren and her 10 year-old brother Noah had decided to go sledding together on Friday, December 6, 2013. They woke up early, bundled up, and headed out to a nearby cul-de-sac to sled on the ice. When she went to slide after her brother, Lauren slid much further than expected and ended up sliding off into a ravine.
Lauren fell over six feet. She was found injured by her mother, Betty Jo Barnard, who rushed her daughter to the emergency room. Lauren suffered severe snow and ice personal injuries that landed her in the operating room, including a broken nose, and lacerations to her forehead, liver and pancreas. Lauren underwent emergency surgery at the Parkland Hospital to repair the lacerations to her internal organs.
People in the area have been praying for Lauren and coming to visit her continually since the snow and ice accident. Lauren’s mother states that Lauren has a long recovery ahead of her.
