Heavy snowfall and icy conditions are being blamed for three deaths across the Midwest after a massive snowstorm bombarded the region this past Thursday, also leaving thousands without power.
According to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, one person died and several others were injured after a tornado touched down in Kemper County, Mississippi.
A utility worker in Missouri was also electrocuted as a result of the storm as he was attempting to repair damage inflicted by the storm.
A third wrongful death was reported in Nebraska where a woman was killed trying to navigate through the heavy snowfall to her home after her car was disabled a mile away.
The snow and ice also shut down several roads in South Dakota, including the state’s major highway, Interstate 90. Travel was also disrupted in Minnesota, which had already experienced a crippling ice storm earlier in the week.
Thousands of homes and businesses across the region lost power due to the heavy, wet snow and treacherous ice. The exact number of people injured in unknown at this time, but officials have linked the three wrongful deaths to the effects of the snow and ice storm.
